About us Projects Benjamin Watkins Feature Films The Theatre

Blue Monday Productions was started in 2002 by the husband and wife team of Benjamin Watkins and Kandi Ali. While BMP is currently focusing on film, their overall goal is to create inspirational and entertaining film, television and literary projects.

BMP got off to a great start with the completion of their short film "Quest to Ref", which debuted at the American Black Film Festival, won the HBO Short Film Award and was an official selection of the 2003 Sundance Film Festival.

In 2005, the feature length version of "Quest to Ref" was picked up by Universal Studios. The project is currently in development with Don Cheadle attached to star.

BMP is currently finishing up post-production on their second short film, Special Ed, starring Todd Bridges, Jill Jones and Eric Ramirez. Watkins wrote and directed. The gritty urban comedy, Spanky and Friends, is also in post.

BMP is also making waves in television, having partnered with Tollin/Robbins Productions to develop a one-hour dramatic series. Watkins wrote the script, which wil be shopped in the coming development season. On the comedy side, BMP has joined forces with Malcolm Spellman, James Bridges and Todd Bridges to develop a half-hour comedy based on the true life adventures of Todd Bridges.

Blue Monday Productions is based in Los Angeles, California.
